Poufs on Poufs
Covered this $1 blue pleather foot stool with an outdoor turquoise patterned fabric.
Gotta love 20 minute projects.
Wheel of Good Fortune
We had been contemplating for a while, what to hang on the empty wall space behind the TV. When trying to hide an ugly chair in the basement, Elana stumbled upon an old bike wheel.
Although its beauty was hidden behind a thick layer of grime and spider webs, some H2O and a little 409 revealed the wheel's true potential as a picture hanger.

Stoop Kids
For whatever reason, the front porch became the area of concern today. Strung up lights, an old leather ottoman, some newly sewn pillows and a golden retriever were were all the items we needed.
The dreaded before picture.
Pillow swatch #1 was a brown, yellow, white and coral Aztec print.
Hard at work sewing
Ottoman and pillow added.
Golden retriever added.

Pallet Art Continued
Using a saw we borrowed from Mary (our neighbor) and a sledge hammer from Elana's tool kit, we worked on completely destroying a pallet we found in the basement (#donttellchad).
After gallons of blood, sweat and sawdust....
We pieced the planks of wood together, then painted on letters to make a living room wall piece.
Using some sandpaper, we distressed the lettering to make the board seem worn then........
Ta da!
Happy poochessssssssssssss = a happy home.

Let there be light...and speakers...and shelving...
When John Orfield stops by, the sky is truly the limit.
First on the list: wall sconces.
Get em outta here! We left the hard electrical work to the dad.
Updated sconces were from Lowe's (our go-to spot) for 20 dollars each!
Next came some father-daughter flea market perusing.
Old barrel side table! Perfect for the lamp we bought at the Ithaca Antique Mall a few weeks ago!
Next Task: Dining Room Lighting
Step 1: Throw away/chuck/destroy/demolish heinous bathroom lighting above dining room table.
Step 2: Purchase old stadium light from flea market.
Step 3: Step back and let Papa Orfield do some some old fashioned jigging, and metal drilling, and all around risky electric wiring.
Voila!!
After all the lighting, we put John hard to work on a few other tasks:
- FENCING in the backyard! Our puppies can now roam wild.
- SHELVING in Elana's room - much needed!
- STEREO SYSTEM in the living room and bedrooms
It was a big weekend here for JYD.
PALLETS, GALORE!
On a quest for living room furniture, we had a FANTASTIC SURPRISE! Pallets. Not just run of your mill pallets... these are.... MINIATURE PALLETS! Perfect for a side table.
The creeper gas company worker man was a little confused by our enthusiasm but who can just skip over FREE mini pallets?!
Next stop: LOWES. Plumbing piping? Yes.
Guest Star this week: PAPA Orfield! Woohoo. Jamie was unbelievably enthused.
The finished product.
JUNKYARD DOGS: MIA
We sincerely apologize for our recent hiatus from blog posts. Traveling and working has consumed our lives! The severe lack of funds has also put a damper on our home improvement capabilities..... After a long week of conserving cash via a cheap diet of potatoes and onions (because we can't afford anything else), we have developed a list of some upcoming projects!
- Dining room lighting
- TV stand
- Couch slip covers
- Dog bed
Jamie was really excited about the last one and couldn't wait to head to the fabric store and pick out a sample for her new dog bed!
All ready to go!
Swallowing wind is pretty fun!
Oh man....I don't feel so good. (Yes, that is my drool all over Brodie's car).
We finally made it! Sorry about the vomit...

Wedding Wonders
Yesterday the Junkyard Dogs, minus the actual dogs, worked a wedding with Word of Mouth Catering at Fontainebleau Inn on Cayuta Lake. It was a beautiful event with swing dancing, polaroid pictures, a vintage typewriter, and lots of excellent DIY ideas!
Vintage typewriter with old library cards to type out a message to the bride and groom!
Ben and Sarah: A Love Story
Polaroid pictures to liven up the guest book!
View of Cayuta Lake
Mini maple syrups as a thank you gift.
Catering up a storm! YOU CAN'T SERVE WITH US. #twinning #blackromperparty
